Anne from Tasmania:
One phone call, and I knew my life was turning around. It wasn’t many weeks before my husband and I were offered a two week placement on a station 120kms west of Winton. We were very excited as we journeyed from Tasmania to Winton.

I cannot describe the joy, as we pulled up at the Homestead and were greeted by the smiling faces of two beautiful children. The words, “you are going to make school fun for me”, jolted me back to reality. We really were out here, with a chance to help someone. My calling, was to put some strategies in place, which would make it easier for this already very busy Mum, to be able to teach her six year old son, and also help make school more interesting for her little boy.

I knew I really needed God’s wisdom now. I vowed to let Him lead me, as best I humanly could. Many hours of discussion with this Mum, and we had established a better understanding of the school Curriculum. We simplified the demands of the Curriculum, enabling her to be more confident about what she would teach, and ways of going about these tasks.

I taught the little boy for most of the ten days we were on the property, and he has undergone a complete change of attitude. It was a wonderful blessing to see the joy in the eyes of these parents when their son was excited about his lessons, and was looking forward to each session.

My rewards have been many. I have witnessed a positive change in this little boy’s attitude towards school; And have watched his mother become more confident about her tasks, as a teacher. Yes, these two weeks really have been two of the best of my life.

I have come to understand the complexities of teaching through Distance Education and my husband and I have shared the real life experiences of living on a Station in Outback Australia.
