Atherton, Queensland.
Audley House is a Student Group Home, located at Atherton, managed by two Student Group Home House Parents. Atherton rests on the Great Dividing Range south-west of Cairns and is a great escape from the humidity of the coast.
The Student Group Home has a large play area, barbeque facilities and leafy surrounds. Students attending Atherton Student Group Home come from wide ranging areas in the North, however the main areas where families are drawn from continue to be Normanton, Karumba, Georgetown, Bamaga and Cooktown. The home began in 1985 after Frontier Services found that there was a significant need for student accommodation in remote parts of the state. It was the first of Frontier Services’ group homes.
It is designed to be a home away from home, in easy reach of schools and the town centre and can accommodate up to 10 young people, who come from as far away as the Cape York Peninsula and Normanton. Most are secondary, although some are primary aged children. The Houseparents help students with homework, transport them to and from recreational and school activities where appropriate and attend to health needs when they arise.
