Cunnamulla Patrol

Cunnamulla, Queensland

This patrol commences at the NSW/Qld border on the Mitchell Highway and stretches 230 kilometres north to Wyandra, east about 100 kilometres and west to Nockatunga about 319 kilometres out of Cunnamulla. It is roughly 150,000 square kilometres in area.

The major communities include Cunnamulla, Eulo, Thargomindah and Wyandra and the region is characterised by marginal pastoral stations. In the west of the patrol is an opal field based on Yowah. The area has many "characters" and a colourful history. Tourism is well established although there are many kilometres in between centres.

In previous years there has been a relatively strong congregation in Cunnamulla but over the past fifteen years or so, this has declined and Frontier Services has shared in a partnership with the Presbytery of the Downs to supply a patrol minister to the region. This arrangement is working extremely well with the appointment of Pastor Dennis Cousens in February 2008.

Dennis is the police chaplain and visits many pastoral stations in the region.
