Responding to vehicle accidents, performing inoculations and blood tests, conducting sex education classes at the local primary school, patching up riders at the district rodeo - these are all the domain of Frontier Services Remote Area Nurses.
Health management is sometimes a low priority for people in remote Australia when they are caught up in the basic struggle of making ends meet - visits to the doctor, when there is one, can be few and far between. For these reasons a focus of our remote area nurses is education - alerting people to the importance of managing their own health and encouraging early intervention on health issues.
The nurses run regular clinics in remote South Australia and Queensland and are often the only medical personnel in these areas.
