Mutitjulu, Northern Territory.
In 2008 Frontier Services, at the request of the Australian Government Department of Families, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs and the Mutitjulu Community, reopened the Mutitjulu Child Care Centre which had been inactive for some time. The service has been key to restoring the competence and confidence of parenting and child care in a community which has been under significant pressure.
Frontier Services also supports the community in the provision of aged and respite services and in the provision of school meals.
There is an emphasis on partnerships, both within the community and with both Australian and Territory government officers. Absolutely everyone is committed to ensuring that this particular service is an outstanding success for the benefit of the Mutitjulu people.
Frontier Services has employed local Indigenous staff and provides opportunities for training and mentoring and the entire program has become a key ingredient in restoring the heart of Mutitjulu.
The Child Care Centre has a very real sense of being a community centre where all generations are welcome and where parenting and early childhood elements can be modelled and reinforced.
