Centralian Patrol

Alice Springs, Northern Territory.

The Centralian Patrol is based in Alice Springs and extends over a vast area of the southern part of the Northern Territory covering 600,000 square kilometres. The borders of QLD, WA and SA are the east, west and southern limits. Ti Tree on the north completes the area.

As a consequence of the size of the Patrol, it is both road and aerial.

There are over 100 pastoral stations, with 14 Aboriginal communities and stations, small settlements, roadhouses, six small mining communities and two large gold mines within the Centralian Patrol. The Patrol Minister regularly visits the Uluru and Kings Canyon areas with services for staff and tourists being conducted, as well as providing pastoral care and counselling.

While the boundaries have changed, this patrol ministry dates back to 1913 when Rev Bruce Plowman spread the ministry north of Oodnadatta travelling vast distances utilising camels as transport.

The Patrol Minister also provides chaplaincy to the Royal Flying Doctor Service and supports both Frontier Services staff and other Uniting Church agencies in the region.
