Hughenden, Queensland.
The North Queensland Rural Family Support Service based in Hughenden was approved in 1994 by the then Department of Families, Youth and Community Care Queensland (presently Department of Communities). The service was originally located in Richmond and was operated by the Richmond Shire.
The service targets rural and remote families who have children up to the age of 18 years. The service aims to equip families with the knowledge and skills necessary to care safely for their children and ensure there is access to support service and resources.
The focus is on addressing issues of safety and strengthening families, including parent education, information, counselling and appropriate referrals.
The NQ Rural Family Support Service has one full time Coordinator and a part-time Resource Officer and covers the Flinders, Richmond and McKinlay Shires.
