Wyndham Home and Community Care

Wyndham, Western Australia.

Managed by a Coordinator, the program shares premises with Marlgu Hostel and is based in the town of Wyndham, located on the Cambridge Gulf in the East Kimberley region of Western Australia.

Until 1993, this service was provided by the Wyndham Aged and Disabled Service, a local community service, and when the committee could not continue to operate, Frontier Services agreed to provide the sponsorship. The service was originally located in a house on the Great Northern Highway and in August 1998, the opportunity was taken to co-locate with the Frontier Services hostel at Marlgu Village.

The HACC service is committed to assisting people who are frail, aged or disabled to remain in their own homes or cultural environment for as long as possible while maintaining independence, dignity and respect.

The HACC care workers assist with personal care, deliver meals on wheels, shopping, banking, housework and gardening. The co-location with the hostel has led to a number of initiatives such as a cook employed part-time to prepare all meals for clients with consideration for dietary needs and cultural backgrounds.

Day centre activities and outings are enjoyed by both HACC clients and hostel residents.
